Compulsive Friday

The card above was created using the Card Catalog Generator that I got from Mason-Dixon Knitting. I think it would be cool to use these for journaling. I'll probably try this next month in the Calendar Journal RR that I'm in. You can also add text that shows as a "scribble" across the card! How fun!

I'm in an ATC technique swap and have been playing with making background papers from an article in this book. Here's my first effort. I'm very pleased with it.

I added my own twist to my next attempt. First, paint black gesso onto newsprint paper and let dry completely.

Once dry, use an old credit card and lightly apply modeling paste to random areas (these are the white sections in the following photo). Let dry completely.

Third step is to take acrylic paints and cover entire surface, letting dry completely before proceeding.

Fourth step is to randomly stamp images. Because the paper was still rather dark, I used pigment inks in metallic colors (if the paper had been lighter, I would have used dye ink). Once dry, I sprayed with acrylic fixative to set. This weekend, I will cut this sheet into ATC sized sections for the swap (hopefully that will lessen the glaringly colors of Neon Green and Pink!).

Lazy Monday

Here are my final two spreads in Christy's calendar journal for February. I used my faux momi paper as a background on the Ted page - it's very glittery IRL.

We finally had some snow in East TN. Here's the view from our back deck.

On Saturday, I ventured through the swirling snow showers to my local Stamp Club meeting. The hostess never made it because of the snow, so we made impromptu cards - sharing stamps, ink, and paper. This is a picture of the cards Cindy made (using her new vertical stamps from Posh Impressions):

The following pix shows cards Patty and I made (Patty's are all along the left side, remaining cards are mine). It was fun to challenge ourselves to use what was on hand.

Tomorrow I hope to share pictures of some lovely yarn I recently acquired! Still deciding what to do with it.

FO for Tuesday

OK, quick class today for all you non-knitters: FO=Finished Object, noun, a highly sought after state for your knitting to be in. This is a pre-requisite for turning your FO into a GIFT! Or for actually putting your FO on your body, i.e. WEAR it yourself! FO's bring on a state of euphoria that challenges the feeling you get from eating chocolate. Above is my first FO for 2007! The purple scarf, Colinette yarn (can't find the ball band, or I would give you the color).

Sunday Stuff

At church today, the nursery worker was absent, so I spent the worship service helping take care of 5 wee ones (I was in heaven, getting my Grandma fix!) There's just something about small children that brings a big smile to my face. We sang "The Farmer in the Dell" and "Itsy Bitsy Spider" - complete with hand motions. Once we were home, I cooked lunch for a change (now that we're empty nesters, I rarely cook a meal for the two of us).

This afternoon I made birthday/anniversary cards for church (about 50 of them). I hope to spend the rest of the evening finishing the scarf for my sister, Roxi.

Below is a picture taken at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville a few weeks ago. We were walking in the tunnel that goes behind the waterfall. Inside are two windows with this cool scrollwork.

And so it begins

This week (while not sleeping since I've had the yucky flu) I figured out the name I wanted to use for my blog.

I love to plan. REALLY.LOVE.IT. When I hear someone discuss a problem, my mind starts turning, coming up with a plan to fix it. In my job, planning is very important. However, your first plan (Plan A) doesn't always work right from the start. You often have to tweak it, thus Plan B is born. Ta da!

Today, while I'm doing laundry, I've been lusting after yarn that my friend Joyce hand dyes. She has some beautiful colors! I'm in the mood to knit and felt a purse.

I'm in a calendar RR. Here is my work in Christy's journal for February.

One of the journal prompts for the month is "I Am Blue".
